About the Author
Carline Bengtsson began her “mosaic” life in Jamaica where she was born. While still a young girl, she departed Jamaica for St. Paul, Minnesota in the summer of 1973. She completed her formative schooling at St. Agnes Catholic School, and went on to study business and art on the Lutheran campus of Concordia College St. Paul (now Concordia University), graduating in 1986. She has earned a Mini MBA from the University of St. Thomas in 1990 and a Marketing Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Executive Education in 2006. Carline has a successful career at the world’s leading medical technology company, Medtronic, Inc. and throughout her career at Medtronic she has also had the opportunity to work and live in Switzerland. Prior to joining Medtronic, she also worked for Honeywell and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MN. Carline is an engaged community volunteer, serving on several boards: St. Paul’s East Side Arts Council, the American Swedish Institute and the St. Paul Schubert Club.
Although her education was grounded in the Catholic and Lutheran faiths, Carline grew up in the Covenant church where she cultivated her Scandinavian roots through her faith, love of music and shared Swedish traditions. In 1988, a chance meeting on a boat outing brought Carline together with her husband-to-be, Lars Johan Georg Bengtsson, born and raised in Sweden, but now at home in Minnesota. Carline and Lars married in the fall of 1994 and resided for fifteen years in downtown St. Paul with a panoramic view of the waters of the Mississippi River on which they first met. They traveled the world, but always returned to Sweden for summers and Christmases. Carline spent quiet time immersing herself in Swedish language, culture and traditional music. Her love of singing led her to be part of the formation of a popular and well respected Scandinavian a-cappella quintet, “Flickorna Fem”. The group has performed throughout the Midwest, toured Sweden and performed for Their Majesties, The King and Queen of Sweden, including Benny Andersson formerly of the singing sensation ABBA, during their visits to the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis.
Carline is described by her family and friends as a medical device industry specialist, a sports enthusiast, passionate soprano, biker chick, fashion and interior design diva, hostess supreme, and connoisseur AND chef of enticing and deliriously delicious eats.
